It was simply stunning outside; there was no other word for it. Although the sun was out, snow fell softly, and as the frozen water hit the sun, rainbows seemed to dance within the flake. From a warm nest it was amazing, but once you got outside, that opinion was quickly changed. Fierce wind flattened the black and white tom’s pelt, and it was obvious exactly what he thought of the weather. Being smaller than the average warrior, and sometimes smaller than the apprentices, Illusionbreak didn’t have enough height to make it through the snow banks to easily, at least, not without getting consumed by the snow. Staring at the outside of camp, tail lashing darkly, the normally energetic deputy only watched as more and more snow fell, before giving up waiting for it to melt. This was only the start of leafbare! There shouldn’t be so much of the icky white stuff on the ground so early, one day he wasn’t going to be able to get out of camp to do his duties, and everyone would laugh, just as they had when he was an apprentice. Maw drawing up slightly, Illusionbreak shot death glares at the snow, watching as the sunlight seemed to be mocking him as it bounced off the white stuff.
Did he really have to go out? He was out yesterday, back before everything had been so bad. Casting a look over his shoulder, grey eyes dark, there appeared to be only a few bits of prey left. Yes, he did have to go out into the snow. Gathering himself up, Illusionbreak glanced up at the milky white sky, and snorted to himself. There was no StarClan, what were the other cats thinking when they spoke of them. Cats made of stars, who lived in the stars? Not possible, he had learned that long ago, back before he was deputy. If there really was such a thing, then they wouldn’t allow so much death to happen, so much insanity. Feeling his hurt, his anger, course through him all the way to the tips of his claws, Illusionbreak jumped forward, knowing just one thing. He had to get away, before his thoughts became obvious. He had worked too hard, he had worked for too long, to lose his position simply because someone found out his secret. Lips curling back, Illusionbreak let out a sharp hiss as the snow consumed him, casting him into the dark, much like a tomb.
Feeling very idiotic, Illusionbreak jumped through the snow piles like a rabbit, latching himself to a tree, and quickly climbing up to the first snow covered branch, breath coming out in small little white clouds. Settling down, and licking a few patches of his fur to soothe himself, the deputy of EmberClan muttered a few choice words, before wondering exactly why it had to be so cold. No kits were allowed outside anymore, and even the apprentices weren’t exactly being taken on any hunting trips, in fear that they wouldn’t be able to manage the snow. Everyone was pulling double shifts, and that was what was killing the deputy’s usual good mood; sleep was very important if you wanted to be semi cheerful. It wouldn’t be long before he and Darkstar got into an argument discussing something; they were both stubborn as an elder, and with such short tempers, well, the two already tended to be a bit off the handle. Maybe it was a good thing this was a solo hunt, not a patrol, blowing up at his warriors was not a good way to gain any popularity points.
As the wind sang through the trees though, making a haunting type of melody, it was as though he was the only one out here, alone in an alien world. Snow still fell softly, but the sun was gone, leaving a feeling of gloom over the territory, and he suspected, over the world. During his moments of waiting, snow had piled onto the tom; and the cold seemed to sink into his bones, though it couldn’t be called pain. Rather, it was more if a buzzing, numb, feeling, which couldn’t be a good sign. Standing up, and watching as the white powder fell to the ground with a very quiet ‘thud,’ the deputy sighed once more, and leaped off the branch, landing pillowed by the snow. It was time to get back to hunting, if any prey was stupid enough to be out in the cold like this. He was probably wasting his time; but they came first. Maybe if he got a cold he wouldn’t have to go out anymore, that would be an answer to his problem with hunting.
Of course, I’d still go out anyway. So, maybe it wasn’t the greatest answer, seeing as he would only make himself more and more sick as he went to hunt for his clan. Jumping through the snow, Illusionbreak finally hit a less snowed on bit of land, and managed to get into a near silent trot, he was known for his silence when doing anything. Ears swiveling forward, the small tom focused, listening for even the faintest scuffle of prey against the land, the faintest crunch of paws on the snow. He wouldn’t be able to go back until he caught a few bits of prey, so he might as well start here; he might have some lucky.
Still though, did it have to be so lonely?
[Bleh. Kind of random I know, but I needed a thread here. My apologies for the crappiness of it.]
